Coming from A2? This course assumes you're comfortable with present, passato prossimo, imperfetto, futuro, condizionale, comparatives, combined pronouns, and basic relative clauses from Lessons 1–16. If any of that feels shaky, it's worth a quick review before diving in — B1 builds directly on it. Haven't started yet? Begin the A1 course → or jump to A2 →

The Full Roadmap

8 lessons, start to finish

Each lesson builds directly on the last. Follow them in order for the smoothest path to B1.

The Approach

Built to actually stick

01
The congiuntivo, front and center
Rather than one dense lesson, the congiuntivo is built up across Lessons 17, 20, and 22 — presente, then hypotheticals, then passato/trapassato.
02
Grammar you can picture
Every tense and structure gets a visual memory-map, not just a table to memorise.
03
Debates, not just dialogues
Lesson 24 puts everything to work in extended, opinionated conversations — the real test of B1 fluency.
04
A real path to B2
Lesson 24 closes with a full review and a clear picture of what's next after B1.
Questions

Frequently asked

Do I need to finish A2 before starting B1?
Yes. B1 assumes you already know present, passato prossimo, imperfetto, futuro, condizionale, comparatives, combined pronouns, and basic relative clauses from A1–A2. If any of that feels shaky, a quick review first will make B1 much smoother.
What's the difference between the congiuntivo and the indicativo?
The indicativo states facts; the congiuntivo (subjunctive) expresses opinions, doubts, wishes, and emotions. Italian requires it after phrases like penso che and è importante che — Lesson 17 covers this in detail.
Is this B1 course really free?
Yes. All 8 lessons are free to use, with no account, sign-up, or payment required.
How long does the B1 course take to complete?
Most learners complete a lesson in about an hour to ninety minutes, and the full 8-lesson course in a few weeks of regular practice — roughly 10 hours of core content in total.
What comes after Lesson 24?
Lesson 24 finishes with a full B1 review and mock exam. From there you're ready for B2 (Upper-Intermediate) Italian, including more nuanced register and idiomatic fluency.
Does this course work on mobile?
Yes, every lesson is fully responsive and designed to work down to small phone screens.
